Tila Project is a government-driven multi-partner platform for testing innovation in creating inclusive jobs in Ethiopia which falls under the pillar “Expanding Economic opportunities and inclusiveness.

Tila (“umbrella” in English) represents inclusivity and protection from vulnerabilities. It is a project that is designed to create jobs and access financing for vulnerable groups. Tila Project is designed to allow the government of Ethiopia, through MoLS’s leadership, to have a human centered approach - empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test and scaleup and showcase innovative approaches towards supporting those groups most at risk of exclusion in the labor market through successful PPP partnerships.

The pilot phase of the project will be implemented by five NGO’s/Grantees, Kidame Mart, Beza Posterity Development Organization (BPDO), Association for Women’s Sanctuary Development (AWSAD), Ethiopian Centre for Disability and Development (ECDD), and Cheshire Foundation.

Tila project aims to Expand Employment opportunities for low-skilled, unemployed, and unpaid rural women through sustainable business development. Under the ‘Tila’ initiative the main financial services provided is the ‘loan service’. The initiative allows the beneficiaries to access loans which are organized under the NGOs and provided through the collaboration of Hibret Bank and Elebat Solutions. It also aims to onboard rural women to work on digital platform
which they will use for their sales activities.

The proposed outcome of this project is 5000 rural, vulnerable women directly employed as Kidame Mart agents and 2,500,000 rural households will be able to buy affordable products that improve their standard of living. It also aims to onboard rural women to work on digital platform which they will use for their sales activities. The expected result of this project is to serve as a proof of concept for rural female entrepreneurship in Ethiopia having sustainable impact on communities’ wellbeing.
